A special thanks to Elizabeth Swaine for sharing this Royal Oak, Maryland January 1966 photo of her Dad John Swaine, Jr. with his Official Weather Service snow gauge! According to John Swaine’s official weather report the snow storm started at 8 am on January 26, 1966 and left 8 inches by 8 am the next morning. A second snow storm began at 2:30 pm on January 29,1966 and by the morning of January 30, 1966 16 to 18 inches of new snow had fallen and the wind gusted up to 50 mph! Do you remember that snowy January? John Swaine, Jr. and his family have reported official weather reports to the Weather Service for decades!
