Talbot County lost one of its most loved residents last Friday morning. The Honorable John C. North II was born on October 16, 1930, at the Memorial Hospital in Easton. Besides his profession as a lawyer and a Judge, Judge North spent his life sailing Log Canoes and restoring vintage automobiles. In later years, he created sculptures out of wood, stone, and metal. In 2018, Judge North released his Eastern Shore Log Canoe history book “Tradition, Speed and Grace Chesapeake Bay Sailing Log Canoes,” which was published by the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. This wonderful photo of a young John North working on an automobile is found in the Talbot Historical Society’s H. Robins Hollyday Collection.
