Talbot Historical Society Project Rewind: Let Meet at the Purity Gospel Church in Ivytown

September 12, 2025 by Talbot Historical Society

Share

The Talbot Historical Society’s Laird Wise Collection has three c. 1949 pictures of the Purity Gospel Pentecostal Mission Church of Ivytown, Maryland in Talbot County.

The society was recently contacted by Bob Croswell who is researching churches in the Trappe area and has pictures that he took of the dilapidated remains of this church on Schwaninger Road just east of Manadier Road in the area called Ivytown ,about 1/2 mile north of the New Queen Esther AME church. The mystery we would all like solved is what happened to this congregation that was so active in the late 1940’s and 1950’s? Do you recognize any of these people or have any information about the church? Did they move to a different location?

Contact: Cathy Hill [email protected] to share your old photos and purchase our collections photos. Comment, Like our page and join the Talbot Historical Society!

I knew a lot of people that went to that church. Truly, I think all of them have passed away. I remember a couple of the pastors that were there but both of them are going too. My husband and I had the opportunity to reach their several times under the leadership of christine cauldron
