This photograph was mailed to us with an inscription on the back, as follows: “Church outing Near Unionville, md 43 Copper family”. There are eleven, well dressed family members in the photograph. One young girl and four young boys. Two adults and four teenagers. Judging by the clothing the family is wearing, we can guess that this photo was taken in the 1890s. With further research of the church tithe log, we see that there was a Copper family led by John and Lydia-or Mary- (sitting in center). John may have participated in the Civil War under the direction of Capt. John Cowgill. As always, if you have any information about the photographs, let us know!
We depend on the community to help fill in pieces of our local Talbot County history so that it is not lost with time. Call 410-822-0773 or email [email protected]

Chef Dan Copper gets credit for the original snapper soup served at the Tidewater Inn. I was fortunate to meet him and pleased to understand some of Copperville’s history!
This year I’m moving back to Easton, where I grew up. We first came to Oxford from Philadelphia, in 1948 or so. The present Community Center was my grade school.
My history is tied firmly to this area, and I am pleased to confirm the beauty of Easton’s surroundings, including Copperville, as strong contributions to my heritage.

What an interesting family to follow from the 1890s to present day! Since they are a Talbot County family there must be history. I would love to read about this family!
