A special celebrity chef auction item will be a highlight of Talbot Mentors’ annual Spring Brunch fundraiser at Talbot Country Club on Sunday, May 20th, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $75 per person. The event offers guests an opportunity to enjoy a gourmet brunch while supporting an organization that has been expanding the horizons of Talbot County children for fifteen years.
UBS, Talbot Bank and David Wheeler Honda Kia are among the sponsors of the brunch once again this year. Judy Meyers also returns to provide an encore piano accompaniment to the meal. Reservations are requested by May 11
A wide array of items is donated to the event’s silent auction each year. A golf package and private sail, pastry lessons and salon services, jewelry and more will be offered during the silent bidding that takes place prior to the buffet brunch, as guests enjoy time to sip beverages, mingle and outbid each other for their favorite items.
A celebrity chef will prepare a dinner for eight at the home of one winning bidder. While celebrity chef meals are not uncommon in fundraising auctions, this one holds special significance for Talbot Mentors.
Last year, Tyrell Jackson graduated from St. Michaels High School and the Talbot Mentors program, winning a $500 scholarship from the organization to further his education at the Culinary Institute of Virginia in Norfolk. He will graduate with an Associate’s Degree in December, with plans to pursue further his culinary arts education.
To help support the organization that has supported him, Jackson is volunteering his chef services for the auction item. His mentor, Al Smith, a founding board member of Talbot Mentors who served as president for five years, is underwriting the cost of the dinner to be offered.
“Rumor has it that Al even may act as Tyrell’s waiter for the evening if the donors are generous enough with their bids,” hinted Jessika Best, Talbot Mentors Program Coordinator.
An addition to this year’s event is a Balloon Pop. Gift certificates from local businesses will fill twenty balloons that guests may purchase and pop to see what they have won.
Proceeds from the brunch support the Talbot Mentors program of matching students with adult volunteers willing to offer time in being a friend to a child.
