After ten years of bouncing between owners and prospective buyers, Talisman Farm has finally landed in the hands of a fairy godmother. The farm, known to locals as the Kudner property, was purchased by the Yan family- Ellis, Anne, and Lilli- from Ashburn, Ohio near Cleveland where they have two thoroughbred horse farms.
Both Ohio farms are fully staffed by professional breeders and trainers and expect to produce ten foals this spring. The Yan’s interest in horses is also a personal one for Lilli who has two horses of her own and competes in jumping and dressage events. The family views Talisman as a southern location where they can winter some of their horses.
They have already cleared out the overgrown brush and bushes at various places on the property and have begun extensive renovations to the guest house. They have taken measures to stop the deterioration of the inside of the historic manor house and have begun basic renovation on the exterior. Full restoration of the mansion lies somewhere in the future while the Yan’s focus on other buildings on the on the property that will accommodate horses and farming.
Talisman Therapeutic Riding, Inc. (TTR) has leased a small portion of the farm for the past four and a half years. The Yan’s came to the site fully aware and supportive of the mission of the organization to provide the environment and professional services for those who can benefit from the healing nature of horses. Both parties expect to continue their relationship.
Talisman’s riders include children and adults with physical, emotional, and cognitive challenges, including veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. The new owners are working closely with TTR to facilitate the organization’s ability to continue to provide their unique and vital services.
“We have a therapeutic riding facility in Ohio, Fieldstone Therapeutic Riding, where Lilli volunteered,” said Anne Yan. “We are familiar with the benefits of therapeutic riding and look forward to a long relationship with TTR.”
Talisman Therapeutic Riding is staffed by professionals and volunteers and relies on individual contributions and fundraising events to provide the services.
On May 7, 2016 TTR will host the fifth Derby Live! event where the Yan Family will be honored guests. The $85 per person ticket includes hors d’oeurves, mint juleps, dinner, drinks, live broadcast of the Kentucky Derby, horse demonstrations, and live and silent auctions. Reservations must be made in advance. For more information go to www.talismantherapeuticriding.org or call 443-239-9400.
