EASTON, MD (January 24, 2012) – Easton will play host to a larger-than-life “presidential” visitor this Saturday!
“Teddy,” whose futile quest to win a President’s Race at Nationals Park has generated an outpouring of national support and made him one of our region’s most beloved sports entertainers, will pay a visit to Easton Little League’s player registrations on Saturday, January 28. He will be on hand to greet players and their families from 11 a.m. to noon.
Registrations will be held for all Easton Little League divisions at the Talbot County Operations Center, located at 605 Port Street in Easton. Doors will open at 9 a.m., and registrations will remain open until noon.
Registration costs for the T-Ball, AA and Minor League Girls Softball divisions will remain at $40, with registrations for the AAA, Little League Boys and Little League Girls divisions remaining at $60. There will also be a $150 family cap. Checks are to be made payable to Easton Little League. Registration for Talbot Junior and Senior League Baseball and Softball will be held at the same times and locations. Fees for those divisions are $75 and checks should be made payable to Talbot Junior League.
Teddy, who bears an obvious and uncanny resemblance to America’s 26th President, races during the fourth inning of every Washington Nationals’ home game against fellow Presidents “Abe” (Lincoln), “George” (Washington) and “Tom” (Jefferson). Teddy has been described on the Nationals’ team website as “a mystery…a crowd favorite among fans who seem baffled by his seeming inability to win.” It goes on to note that “he’s got the skills, he’s got the drive, he’s got the brains, yet victory has been elusive. Maybe it’s his independent Bull-Moose spirit. Teddy doesn’t like to play by the rules. He’s been spotted in the Upper Bowl, or tossing t-shirts, or cruising in a golf cart, while his racing compatriots stick to the track.”
