News Election 2022

Tom Costigan Seeks Oxford Commissioner Position

June 8, 2022 by Spy Desk

After many years serving as Chair of Oxford’s Historic District Commission, Tom Costigan has announced his candidacy to run for the position of Town Commissioner.  An election will take place on Tuesday, June 21st, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Oxford Town Office on Market Street.

Tom Costigan

“My wife, Pat, and I have been homeowners here for over 22 years.  After having gone through what was an uncomfortable experience personally, I was anxious to join our Historic District Commission and reform the building permitting process.  My goal was to make this procedure more educational and collaborative and less adversarial.  I am proud of the work our group has accomplished during my tenure.”

“Since moving here from Washington, DC, I have been a constant volunteer for many worthy causes, such as Oxford Day, Dock Trees on Town Creek, the Oxford Library book sale and our Community Center.  I’m a regular at Cars and Coffee held on the first Saturday of each month, and I have made it to the finish line at both OCC Road Rallies.  You may have even seen me tending my roses on Caroline Street or pleading with my lawnmower to make it through another summer.”

“A bit about my background:  I arrived in Washington, DC, in 1975 to attend Georgetown University and subsequently got my MBA from George Washington University.  I spent many years as a licensed realtor in Washington, DC and Montgomery County.  I discovered a passion for renovating old houses and helping others achieve their housing goals.  I understand how important home ownership is.”

“This town is a wonderful place to live; but I think we can make it even better through improved communications and more interaction among Town Commissioners and citizens before contentious issues arise.  In my view, our Town meetings are currently a very formal and static forum for this exchange of ideas.  I would love to see our commissioners meet face to face with citizens and business owners to listen to their concerns.  As a retired individual, serving as an Oxford Commissioner will have my full-time focus.  I feel it’s critical that Oxford voters have a choice in this upcoming election.  Please help me to preserve and protect this place we all love and call home.”
