Pickering Creek Audubon Center will host Tour, Toast and Taste at Knightly in Easton on June 15, 2013 beginning at 5:30 PM.
The welcoming trees and gardens of Easton’s historic “Knightly” are a perfect fit for this year’s Tour, Toast and Taste event to benefit the education programs of Pickering Creek Audubon Center, the Shore’s premiere environmental center.
Currently owned by Alice Ryan, Knightly was built around 1820 and is a two story Federal style brick building. The home was built by Edward Lloyd V for his daughter Elizabeth Lloyd and her husband Edward Winder. In addition to the original structure there is a service wing and a sun drenched glass porch that overlooks the garden. The house remained in the Lloyd family through the late 1800’s before passing through several owners and ultimately being used for storage. It was initially renovated in the early 1970’s and has since been updated several times. The home has wonderful gardens, beautiful views of Leeds Creek and showcases several significant trees including a magnificent tulip poplar at the entrance to the home.
Tour, Toast & Taste begins with a tour of all of the first floor rooms of Knightly beautifully decorated by Ms. Ryan. The rooms feature significant original woodwork and other detail features original to the home. The home has been tastefully decorated by Ms. Ryan including a number of classic art pieces and original regional landscapes, retaining the overall flavor of the house while adding many attractive embellishments. Docents and family members will be on hand to share the history of the house with guests.
After the house tour, guests will adjourn to a pleasantly breezy riverfront tent overlooking Leeds Creek for cocktails, delicious hors d’ouevres, and light entertainment. At the sound of the bell, guests will have the opportunity to purchase a wide variety of intriguing dinners, unique events and auction items donated by community members and businesses. 100% of the proceeds will support the environmental science and nature education programs of Pickering Creek Audubon Center.
Items available for guests to enjoy throughout the year include a week’s stay for six in Tuscany, Friday Night Fish Fry at the home of William and Mary Griffin, tickets behind home plate for an Orioles Red Sox Game, cooking class and dinner at your home with Chef Jordan from Bartlett Pear, Rocktoberfest, a celebration of rockfish and the Bay at Lombardy Orchard, a long weekend in Rehoboth, a hockey stick signed by Ovechkin of the Caps, themed dinners and luncheons at a number of private homes, art, decoys and much, much more. In addition to these great items events at Ashby, Harleigh, Wye Heights and Wye House will be available for purchase on the 15th at Knightly.
Event committee members have created an evening full of fun and surprises at one of Talbot County’s finest and rarely seen estate homes. For more information on Pickering Creek or to purchase tickets to Tour Toast and Taste call 410-822-4903 or visit www.pickeringcreek.org/ttt.

Celebrating it’s 31th year, Pickering Creek Audubon Center provides environmental education and volunteer opportunities to students and adults of the Eastern Shore, moving them from awareness of their watershed to conservation action in their communities.
