Retired Colonel William De Shields, a native of Easton, Maryland will discuss his experience as historian of the Tuskegee Airmen and share with his audience what it was like living on the home front during World War II. He will also discuss the plight of American heavy bomber squadrons during their suicidal missions over the skies of Europe.
After serving 30 years in the United States Army, Col. De Shields enjoyed a successful career in a variety of fields including consultant and lecturer on matters related to human relations. He is also the founder and president of the Black Military History Institute of America, Inc. His activities include working with the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum on selected exhibits, assisting the Department of Defense with their World War II, 50th Anniversary preparation and assisting HBO with its movie “The Tuskegee Airmen.”
