Two Artists Partner To Create Easton’s Creativity Hub

December 17, 2023 by Spy Desk

Mary Kramer of “Mother Mary’s Creations” and Deanna Pratt of “Ethel Mae Studio” are thrilled to announce the opening of their shared creative artists’ workspace: Open Studio of Easton on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The grand opening is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The pair have created a place where locals of all skill levels can teach, learn and relax, all while creating original works of art. Local artisans may also use the studio to host individual workshops depending on their medium of choice.

“We understand the importance of creating a supportive and inclusive environment like Open Studio where individuals can overcome their fears and feel comfortable creating,” Kramer and Pratt said.

More and more experts and studies conclude that the healing of the heart, body and mind can happen through art and artistic expression, regardless of one’s expertise. Open Studio of Easton is the place to put those powers into motion.

The studio is open to creative workshops and events for everyone in the community, including but not limited to homeschool, elementary, middle and high school students, senior citizens, families and friends, from paint nights to birthday celebrations. People can even stop by to enjoy a cup of coffee and create a one-of-a-kind painting while making connections and meeting new people. Open Studio also allows people to shop for local artisans’ work to support the local economy and share the creativity of others.

Kramer and Pratt are both self-taught artists. Both have a unique story that brought them to their passions.

Pratt is a wife, mother, grandma and artist.

“I’ve always loved art, any type of art. I worked for over 25 years for the U.S. Postal Service, and we decided that my body could no longer take the heavy package load. I started to practice drawing, painting in pastel, watercolor, and acrylic, and I found peace,” Pratt said. “I love to share my love of painting with all, and host weekly Art Workshops, Ladies Night, Daddy and Me, Art Birthday Party, and Date Nights. It is a calming, relaxing way to forget the crazy world.”

Pratt also loves color, abstract art, whimsical, floral, and Impressionism. She spends her days at her first studio, “Ethel Mae Studio,” named in honor of Great-Grandmother Ethel Colburn and Grandmother Lena M Bryan.

Kramer, founder of Mother Mary’s Creations in Easton, jumped on the popular resin-creation trend five years ago. Her 3D multi-medium coastal creations of sea life and added favorite, dogs on the beach, are sold at many local events including the Eastern Shore Sea-glass, and Coastal Arts Festival. In her spare time, she spends lots of time with her dogs.

To set up an interview, contact Mary Kramer at [email protected] or Deanna Pratt at @[email protected]. Open Studio of Easton is located at 611 Dutchmans Lane, Easton, MD 21601. People can sign up for workshops through the studio’s Facebook page and they can also sign up for the studio’s newsletter.

What a wonderful idea! I was hoping the Academy Art Museum might do something like this but…
I’m so happy this has been created. It’s so difficult to be creative without input from other creatives.
