University of Maryland Shore Regional Health’s Annual Nurse Excellence Awards event was held on Monday, May 11 at the Todd Performing Arts Center at Chesapeake College. The occasion was the capstone event in the annual celebration of Nurses’ Week, May 6-12.
Leading the event presentations was Chris Parker, Shore Regional Health’s CNO and senior vice president of Clinical Services. Ken Kozel, president and CEO, and John Dillon, chairman of the UM Shore Regional Health Board, also were on hand and spoke glowingly of the reputation for excellent care earned by the nearly 600 nurses working in UM Shore Regional Health’s facilities and the key role that quality nursing plays in achieving the organization’s mission, Creating Healthier Communities Together, and its vision, Being the Region’s Leader in Patient Centered Health Care. “I hear so many accolades about our nurses when I am out in the community,” Kozel said. “All of you represent excellence in care.”

Outstanding Achievement in Care Delivery: Commitment to Others — Hope Meredith, Staff Nurse, Critical Care Unit, UM Shore Medical Center at Dorchester
Outstanding Achievement in Leadership — Karen Jackson, Safe Nurse Coordinator, UM Shore Regional Health
Outstanding Achievement in Mentorship/Advocacy — Dana Foster, Staff Nurse, UM Shore Medical Centers at Easton and Dorchester, Operating Room
Outstanding Achievement in Professional Nursing — Sally Worm, Regional Program Manager, UM Shore Regional Health, Center for Cardiopulmonary Fitness & Wellness
Unit/Department Excellence in Clinical Outcomes — UM Shore Medical Center at Easton and Dorchester Operating Rooms
The May 11 awards presentation also marked the graduation of 14 nurses from Shore Regional Health’s Critical Care University (CCU) and Graduate University (GU) advanced nursing education programs. The 2015 CCU graduates honored were: Sarah Britt, Katherine Brown, April Ewing, Jaime Ewing, David Kalb, Sarah Postles, Victoria Spray, Jason Weaver and Ashton Wheatley. Honored as 2015 GU graduates were Dina Daniels, Ashley Djeter, Angela Greene, Rebecca Lyons and Teresa Yawn.
