Easton Library Book Group to Discuss “Portrait of a Lady”
Book Discussion: Portrait of a Lady by Henry James
On Monday, January 27, at 6:30 p.m., in the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library, the Easton Book Group (open to all) will discuss Henry James’ classic tale of a young American heiress intent upon making a splash in late-nineteenth century Europe. In honor of the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage, throughout 2020 the Easton Book Group will focus on books by or about women. All library programs are free and open to the public. Easton Library to Host Lecture on “Thomas Jefferson’s Revolutionary Garden”
On Tuesday, January 28, at 1:30 p.m., in the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library, Peter Hatch, director of gardens and grounds at Monticello for 35 years, will tell the story of Thomas Jefferson’s 1000-foot-long vegetable garden and how it became an experimental laboratory—a virtual Ellis Island for new and unusual vegetable novelties from around the globe. Jefferson was a pioneer in supporting farmers’ markets and fresh vegetable cookery and cuisine at Monticello. Restored in 1984, the gardens at Monticello continue to inspire the farm-to-table movement today.
Peter Hatch is a professional gardener and historian with experience in the restoration, care, and interpretation of historic landscapes. As Director of Gardens and Grounds at Monticello for 35 years, Hatch has lectured on Monticello and the history of garden plants across the country. He also regularly consults on the installation and maintenance of both public gardens and private estate landscapes.

St. Michaels Library to Screen Award-Winning Feature Film
On Tuesday, January 28, at noon, the St. Michaels branch of the Talbot County Free Library will show an award-winning feature film on its large, professional screen. This movie is rated PG-13. Easton Library to Offer Teen Night: Peer Pilot Mentoring for 8th Graders
On Wednesday, January 29, at 6:00 p.m., the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library will offer students in the 8th grade the opportunity to fly into a day in the life of a high-schooler with student peer mentors from Easton High School and St. Michaels Middle High School. Children Will Get to Camp-“In” at the St. Michaels Library
On Thursday, January 30, from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m., the St. Michaels branch of the Talbot County Free Library invites children 2 – 8 years of age, accompanied by an adult, to come in for an evening of winter camping-themed games, crafts, a scavenger hunt, story time, and s’mores around the campfire!! Children may wear their camping gear or pj’s and bring a sleeping bag or blanket (optional). This program is sponsored by the Talbot County Free Library and St. Luke’s School. Easton Library to Host Talbot Chess Tournament for Children in Grades K – 5
On Saturday, February 1, at 10:00 a.m., at the Presbyterian Church, 617 N. Washington Street, the Talbot County Free Library will host a chess tournament for children in grades K – 5.
