The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md., is offering a waterfowl-watching river cruise on Friday, October 24 with Chester River Field Research Station ornithologists Dan Small and Maren Gimpel. The 90-minute cruise aboard the historic 1920 buy boat Winnie Estelle departs from CBMM at 8 a.m. for best bird watching along the Miles River. Space is limited, with reservations needed.
Participants will join Small and Gimpel as they observe flocks of ducks, geese and swans returning to the Chesapeake Bay region on their annual fall migration. Small and Gimpel will discuss the biology of different migratory waterfowl, while sharing insights and answering questions about waterfowl habits, calls and unique characteristics. Participants are encouraged to bring cameras and binoculars, while dressing appropriately for the weather.
The October 24 cruise is $20 for CBMM members or $25 for non-members, with pre-registration needed by calling 410-745-4941 or emailing [email protected]. For more information, visit www.cbmm.org.
