The Tilghman Watermen’s Museum is introducing the second in a series of Tilghman Island holiday ornaments. The inaugural design in 2014 featured the Knapps Narrows Bridge. This year’s ornament honors the Lee House where the museum is located.
The Lee House is one of twelve “W houses” built on Tilghman Island between 1890 and 1900. Unique to the Tilghman and Sherwood area, it is thought that the “W” shape allowed for cross ventilation with the breezes being distributed throughout the house. It was acquired by the Museum in 2010 to restore for its permanent home. In June of this year, the museum opened to visitors, and now serves as a museum piece itself, along with the many artifacts, stories and art depicting life on Tilghman Island.
The Museum is dedicated to the documentation and preservation of the history, traditions, heritage and culture of Tilghman Island. All proceeds from the sales of these pewter ornaments support the ongoing restoration of the Lee House and programs of the Museum.
The ornament can be purchased for $20 at Two if by Sea Cafe, Harrison’s Chesapeake House, and the Museum at the Lee House. There is also a limited supply of the 2014 ornament available for sale at the Lee House.
