A perfect sunny day greeted hundreds of participants celebrating cultural diversity at the 14th Annual Multicultural Festival on Saturday at Easton’s Idlewild Park.
Sponsored by the Avalon Foundation, whose mission is to provide diversified arts and educational programs for the Eastern Shore, the park grounds were packed with dozens of booths and tables circling a main stage used for ongoing, fast-paced performances.
And performances there were—from peace prayers and hula-hoop exhibitions to children’s singing groups and an amazing African drummers ensemble from Washington DC. Applause rippled through the crowds throughout the four hour event.
Just counting a few venues would include Talbot Mentors, the Diabetes Foundation, Talbot Historical Society, The Frederick Douglass Society, The Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Buddhists for Peace, Talbot Humane Society, the Avalon Foundation, Pet Pantries and Pop’s Snow Palace and Treats. Many more treated visitors to face painting and a wide variety of ethnic food.
It was a perfect way to kick off summer events on Talbot County and if this was a sample of things to come, an exciting summer it will be.
