E-The Environmental Magazine is reporting on a study conducted by the Silent Spring Institute that covered 213 products in 50 product categories, focusing primarily on personal-care products like lotion, hair products, toothpaste, shampoo; cleaners like laundry detergent and glass cleaner; as well as other everyday items from diapers to shower curtains to cat litter.
The study reveals that a wide range of consumer products contain chemicals known to disrupt hormones and/or trigger asthma. They also looked at so called “alternative products”, labeled natural, green, or non – toxic. A children’s sunscreen had the highest number of
disruptive chemicals.
Part of the problem is that many of the chemicals under concern are often “not listed on labels or in online rating systems, which are based on product label.”

With an impressive quantity of certified organic acreage, Bobby Taylor has dared to choose a new path for his family and his farm, Taylor’s Fresh Organics. Along with his wife Janna and their three boys, this fifth generation farmer has envisioned a farm that gives back to the environment and to the community. And you can be a part of their vision.
For 20 weeks, starting in May, locally grown organic produce will be delivered at a very reasonable price through their farm’s CSA. For only $13.75, you get enough produce to feed two people for a week. A whole shares cost $25 to feed four. These share baskets will be filled with a vast variety of vegetables and fruits at their absolute peak of freshness. They will travel to homes from Bowie to Dover, as well as numerous other drop-off locations.
Taylor’s Fresh Organic practices healthy sustainable farming. They donated 50,000 pounds of produce last year to the Maryland Food Bank. The farm sponsors a rehabilitation work program through the Department of Corrections. These actions speak to their generosity and commitment to the community. And they’d gladly trade recipes with you too.
