On Wednesday, April 1st, the Working Artists Forum (WAF) opened their Annual Spring Show at the Todd Performing Arts Center at Chesapeake College, exhibiting a wide variety of works in oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor and mixed media.
Matthew Hillier, was the judge for this show and chose three outstanding paintings out of the 85 pieces submitted for Awards of Excellence. Betty Huang’s oil, “Burst of Sunset,” caught his eye with her superb brushwork, and the sinister atmosphere of a moody, winter landscape, coupled with a brilliant sunset. The second Award of Excellence went to Patty Mowell for her watercolor, “Sunny Faces,” a bold design and excellent composition, which was both vibrant and clean. The last piece chosen for an Award of Excellence was “Red Tulips,” a painting by Sandy Alanko noted for it’s superior watercolor technique, interesting composition and intriguing use of color in the shadows.
In addition, four Honorable Mentions were awarded to the following artists: Barbara Zuehlke for her watercolor, “By-Gones,” Sharon Mills for her painting, “Crab del Sol,” Stephanie Nadilski for her montage/collage, “Kohun Lick,” and to Bronwyn Whaley for her painting, “Sheeps’ Beautiful Day.”
This show is free and is open to the public until Thursday, April 30th. Doors are open weekdays, Monday through Friday, and during specially scheduled performances.
The Working Artists Forum is a nonprofit organization of more than 90 professional artists in and around the Eastern Shore, who meet monthly at the Academy Art Museum in Easton.
