To kick off its fall season of classes, the Academy Art Museum in Easton, MD, is offering a range of painting and drawing classes by experienced artists in its newly renovated painting studio.

Nor'easter, by Matthew Hillier, who is known for his extraordinary wildlife paintings.

Included among the fall instructor list is talented painter, Matthew Hillier, who is known for his extraordinary wildlife paintings. For many years, he was a regular contributor to the Guinness Book of Records illustrating the wildlife section. Hillier will offer a weekly oil class, “Brushing Up in Oils,” beginning on September 13 (6 weeks) and a two-day Marine Painting Workshop, “Waves, Sparkles and Reflections,” on October 1 and 2. The workshop will demonstrate various “water techniques” unveiling some of the secrets to painting convincing water.

A new teacher to the Academy, but a regular participant in Plein Air Easton, Diane DuBoise Mullaly, is offering a two-day weekend workshop, “Painting Small Works in Plein Air” (Nov. 5 and 6) and an “Oil Painting in Miniature” weekend workshop (Oct. 8 and 9). Mullaly has entered and won major awards in major national miniature art exhibits.

Award-winning artist and teacher, Ellen Gavin, is offering a special one-day workshop, “Painting in Oils Simply and Effectively,” on Saturday, October 15. The workshop will focus on mixing color, composition, and eliminating those mental demons through her fresh plein air/alla prima approach to painting.

On Tuesdays, October 4 and 11, Dawn Malosh will offer a drawing workshop, “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark –Explorations in Values and Shades.” The class will explore shadows and shades through pencil drawing and artistic expression. All artistic levels are welcome.

Instructors Heather Crow and Katie Cassidy will return to the Museum with their popular weekly classes. Crow will offer eight-week classes in “Basic Drawing” and “Beginning Watercolor.” No experience is necessary for these classes. Cassidy is offering three classes, “Still Life in Pastel,” “The Face and Figure in Pastel,” and “The Landscape in Pastel.”

The Academy Art Museum is also offering a range of classes and workshops in photography, memoir writing, bookmaking, pottery, paper making, and needlepoint – something for everyone. For further information and to register, visit www.academyartmuseum.org or call 410-822-2787.
