The Rotary Club of Easton will be holding its fourth annual “Flags for Heroes” over Memorial Day Weekend. This event serves as a fundraiser for Easton Rotary’s Youth and Community Fund as well as for various veteran and hero-related organizations within the local community.
The “Flags for Heroes” event provides members of the local community with an opportunity to honor their personal heroes including family members, friends, veterans, active members of the armed forces, teachers, firefighters, police officers or any other individuals who have made a positive impact on their lives.
American flags, which stand at 8’ tall, can be sponsored for $50.00 each in honor or in memory of personal heroes and over Memorial Day weekend will be displayed at multiple locations in the Easton area including the Talbot County Community Center, Idlewild Park and the Talbot County Court House. The deadline for flag sponsorships is May 16. Corporate sponsorships are also available at the $250, $500 and $1000 level.
As a result of the 2014 “Flags for Heroes” event, the Rotary Club of Easton presented donations totaling more than $18,000 from their Youth and Community Fund to various community organizations. Donations were made to 12 organizations, many of which provide services to veterans. Those organizations who received funds from the Rotary Club of Easton were Caring Clowns; Easton High School NJROTC; Chesapeake College, a participant in the Veteran’s Educational Benefits Program; Easton Volunteer Fire Department; Easton Police Department; Marine Moms – Bethesda, a locally based organization who provides homemade lunches for the patients and their families at the Walter Reed/Bethesda Hospital at least once per month; Talbot Hospice, who received specific funding for the veterans they care for; Talbot County Mental Health Association, who received funding for their Veterans Fund which assists Eastern Shore veterans in need; the Talbot County Paramedic Foundation, who received funding toward the purchase life-saving equipment; Habitat for Humanity for their veterans program; Spring Hill Cemetery; and Hope for the Warriors.
