“When Women Won the Vote– the State by State Drama of Ratification”, co-sponsored by the Talbot County Free Library and Easton AAUW, will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 10:00 am at the Easton library.
“We are looking for a few more people to represent states,” Sharron Cassavant, AAUW Program Committee, said. They will pop up in the audience when the moderator calls out a relevant year. They should be able to rise promptly and speak in a voice that all can hear.Each will receive a one or two sentence script in advance. The program moderator, Sara Mangat from the Wharton Communications Dept. at the University of Pennsylvania, promises to keep the program lively and interesting.
Cassavant predicts that the morning will be “entertaining and thought provoking,” adding “At the moment, we need about eighteen more people. Men should volunteer, too. No woman would be able to vote today if men in the US Congress and state legislatures had not voted for the 19th Amendment. The 1920 ratification was a milestone. It remains the single moment in US history when significant power was extended to a major segment of the population without armed conflict.”
