ReStore, the retail-and-resale arm of Habitat for Humanity Choptank, has named Mike Allison its Volunteer of the Month for May.
“Mike has been active with the ReStore committee since before there was a ReStore!” said Lee Weldon, who has managed the ReStore since it opened in November of 2010. “He has contributed untold hundreds of hours to the effort to organize, open and operate the ReStore. He continues to serve as chairman of the ReStore Committee, and is currently leading the planning of the next phase of the operation’s growth.
A real estate agent with Lacaze Meredith by profession, Allison also serves on several other committees in the Habitat Choptank organization. In addition, he is a member of the Tuesday Crew that works on its homebuilding projects in Easton. In fact, he was already on the Building Committee and the Tuesday Crew before the ReStore was even conceived.
“About four years ago, when the ReStore planning committee was formed, I was asked if I would be on the committee,” Allison recalls. “Then, as it became clear that we were moving from an idea to forming a real plan to start a ReStore, I was asked to chair the committee.” Like many Habitat volunteers, Allison is motivated by his faith and because “I believe in Habitat’s mission to help people and families help themselves, not to just give them a handout. I believe it’s who we are as Americans: Work hard, and with a little help, get ahead. It’s my way of giving back to my community. And it originates with my Christen beliefs and principles.”
“We don’t see him in the store much these days,” said Weldon, “but he remains an important part of our operation. Thanks, Mike, for all you do for us at Habitat Choptank!”
