St Michaels is the place to be this weekend; the Maritime Museum is not only holding its maritime model expo, including radio-controlled boats powered by steam, battery, and wind, (who doesn’t love to watch models zooming around on the water ?); but it is also the finish for the Annapolis to St Michaels Elf Classic. The participants must row to the boat on mooring or anchor, make sail and reverse the process at the finish, in this case signing the race log at the Tolchester Bandstand on the grounds of the Maritime Museum.
And if maritime activities are just not your thing, there is the first annual St. Michaels Running Festival: a half marathon, a 10K run and a 5K run/walk; events are open to people of all fitness levels and abilities. There will be plenty of action after the races – live music with Them Eastport Oyster Boys and British Mania, food vendors and an awards ceremony. The festival will benefit the local business and nonprofit community.
Perhaps one of the most innovative guitar players performing today, Charlie Hunter, will take the stage at the NightCat this Sunday. His custom made seven and eight string guitars allow him to play melody and bass simultaneously. No pyrotechnics, just a virtuoso guitarist accompanied by drummer/percussionist Scott Amendola. While some would classify him a jazz guitarist, Hunter has dabbled with funk/rock, reggae and soul in the past. Expect to be awestruck.

If you missed the model boats this past weekend you really missed something amazing. Being, as I am, a big fan of the old classic “African Queen” movie, I was particularly interested in the steam driving models on display this weekend. They were as much fun to watch, as their owners were to listen to. The detail on these models is very authentic with working pressure gauges and steam whistles and listening to the boat owners talking about each boats history is like entering a time machine and going back in time with a guide to give you an entertaining tour. This is one of those events that should be on everyone’s calendar. Here’s another Great Job by all but especially our CBMM!
