What do Eric Clapton, Peter Green, John McVie, Mick Fleetwood, Andy Fraser, and Mick Taylor have in common? They all have played with the legendary godfather of British blues, John Mayall. The Avalon Theatre is honored to have Mayall perform on its stage this Monday, February 20.
Strongly influenced by such greats as Leadbelly, Albert Ammons, Pinetop Smith, and Eddie Lang, John founded the pioneering British band The Bluesbreakers in 1963, which went on to inspire a generation of England’s greatest blues and rock performers. When the band split, John went on to help define an era of hard-hitting Chicago-style blues in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Throughout the ‘90s and beyond, he has recorded a string of hit albums and continues to perform live gigs to critical and popular acclaim, demonstrating Mayall’s lasting mastery of the blues and his continuing importance in contemporary music.
