Maryland U.S. Senator Ben Cardin and Maryland Democratic Chair Yvette Lewis will speak at the Talbot County Democratic Forum’s Kennedy-King Dinner September 22 at the River House at the Easton Club.
The goals of this year’s dinner are twofold. The Forum has been acting as a conduit to organize concerned citizens and health care professionals in the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and the health exchanges in Maryland, and will carry this theme into the Kennedy-King Dinner. Additionally, several Democrats who have or will announce their candidacies for local, state and federal offices will be present and be recognized and supported.
Keynote speaker Senator Ben Cardin believes that affordable health care is a right, and is a strong supporter of the Affordable Care Act, which will provide coverage to 30 million Americans, 740,000 uninsured Marylanders, and more than 70,000 on the Eastern Shore. The timing of the Dinner, just prior to the beginning of the enrollment period October 1, is significant. Chairwoman Yvette Lewis, who will speak and introduce Senator Cardin, will speak to why Maryland is a national leader in the effort to support and implement the Affordable Care Act and the health exchanges. She has been Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party since June, 2011.
The Talbot County Democratic Central Committee will present their Democrat of the Year Award to Blair Potter, and the Talbot County Democratic Women’s Club will present their Woman of the Year Award to Harriette Lowery. The September 22 Dinner begins at 5:30 PM with a reception followed at 6:15 by dinner and the program. Cost is $45 per person.
The Talbot County Democratic Forum is the official club of the Democratic Party in Talbot County. The 1,000+ supporters of the Forum are activists who believe change is possible with an educated electorate and have built their base upon this premise.
