Adored by audiences worldwide, the Quebecois band LE VENT DU NORD is an inspirational force in progressive folk — capturing the energy and mirth of a Saturday night kitchen party. The event will be on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at 5:00 p.m, at Contemporary Tapestry Studio & Gallery, 5592 Poplar Lane, Royal Oak (near the Bellevue landing of the Oxford-Bellevue Ferry).
Since its founding in 2002, Le Vent du Nord have become compelling Francophone ambassadors, winning critical acclaim and devoted fans across Europe, Oceania and America. The quartet has performed over 1,600 concerts, racking up several prestigious awards, including a Grand Prix du Disque Charles Cros, two Junos (Canadas Grammy’s), a Félix at ADISQ, a Canadian Folk Music Award, and Artist of the Year at the North American Folk Alliance Annual Gala.
The band delivers catchy songs and tunes, some taken from the Québec traditional folk repertoire while others are original compositions. The group includes rich and varied instrumentation (fiddle, bouzouki, guitar, accordion, hurdy-gurdy), well-polished musical arrangements, and wonderful vocals.
“The quartet Le Vent du Nord is a leading force in (Quebec’s) progressive folk movement, and they leaven their hard-driving soulful music (a close cousin to Celtic music) with New Orleans polyphony and R&B. Featuring button accordion, guitar and fiddle, the band’s sound is defined by the hurdy-gurdy, which adds an earthy, rough-hewn flavor to even the most buoyant dance tunes.” – Boston Globe
Join us after the performance for a wine & cheese reception with the artists — and enjoy the beautiful tapestries on display in Ulrika Leander’s studio and gallery.
