On Saturday, September 10, 2016, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum welcomed more than 450 people to its waterfront campus in St. Michaels, Md., for its 19th Annual Boating Party Fundraising Gala, themed around the historic America’s Cup race and featuring foods and libations representing the six competing nations in the 2017 race; America, New Zealand, Sweden, Japan, Britain and France. The event featured a rare, and up close experience aboard the schooner America, a 139-foot replica of the vessel that started the America’s Cup tradition in 1851 by defeating the British to win the Royal Yacht Squadron’s “100 Pound Cup.” Included in the evening was dinner and dancing to live music by dance-band DC Fusion. Proceeds from the event support the children and adults served by CBMM’s education, restoration, and exhibition programs. To learn more, visit cbmm.org.
