“Celebrate Plein Air in St. Michaels” will take place on Tuesday, July 18, at Muskrat Park in St. Michaels. The Plein Air Kids’ Paint Out is a beloved part of the day, with children (ages 4 and up) painting their masterpieces in the park. Registration begins at 9:30 am, and the Paint Out will take place from 10 am until 12 pm. Local artist mentors include Vickie Fisher, Judy Bittorf, Donna Finley, and members of the St. Michaels Art League. Prizes for the Paint Out will be presented at a 12:30 p.m. awards ceremony in the park.
This year’s event is sponsored by the Candleberry Gallery, St. Michaels Art League, St. Michaels Family YMCA, and St. Luke’s Church School.
Kids of all ages are welcome to come enjoy the various art stations that will be available from 10 am until 1 pm in the park. Tracy Cohee, Executive Director of the St. Michaels YMCA, will be organizing a Fun and Fitness Center with healthy snacks and prizes for completing the course. Blair Shelby, Director of St. Luke’s Church School, will entertain the kids with a sensory art program using the most unbelievable painting tools. Heidi Wetzel, a local fiber artist, will teach the kids how to weave a pencil box. There will also be face painting and various arts and craft tables. The children will be entertained by Cascading Carlos who will amaze them with his juggling skills while he teaches them how to juggle. He is not a clown or magician; he is a juggler who clowns around and has many illusions in his juggling show. Children will have the opportunity to tour the Phillips Wharf Environmental Center Fishmobile and touch a variety of turtles and reptiles.
We would like to thank Phillips Wharf Environmental, Destination Imagination Team of Talbot County, NAHS St. Michaels High School, NAHS Easton High School, and the Town of St. Michaels for helping us to bring this event to St. Michaels. Kids’ Day is supported in part by the Talbot County Arts Council with revenue from the Maryland State Arts Council.
This event is open to the public and is free of charge. Pre-registration is requested to help with purchasing supplies, and can be made by contacting Candleberry Gallery at 410-745-2420 or emailing [email protected]. However, children can also register at the park at 9:30 am that day. Donations are gladly accepted.
