Checking in with YMCA of the Chesapeake’s Robbie Gill

June 6, 2016 by Dave Wheelan

Share

Almost since the Spy started the publication of the Talbot Spy, we have made it a point to talk to Robbie Gill, the executive director of the YMCA of the Chesapeake every year. These conversations are helpful on many fronts since they provide a good indicator of how the Eastern Shore (they cover from Chincoteague to Centreville) is doing in providing essential programs and facilities to thousands of Delmarva Peninsula’s children and adults.

Over the last twelve months, Robbie, his staff, and local advisory boards have been working hard to expand the level of service to the community in almost every part of the Shore. From the opening of a new facility in Centreville, expanding capacity at both the Chincoteague and Salisbury sites, and beginning a fundraising drive for a YMCA near the public school grounds in St. Michaels.

But as Robbie notes in his remarks, the YMCA mission has never been about buildings, but the use of these facilities as tools to have the maximum impact on their members’ physical and mental well-being.

This video is approximately nine minutes in length. For more information about the YMCA of the Chesapeake please go here

Thanks so much for interviewing Robbie Gill, whose vision has driven not only the growth of the local YMCA, but its relevance and importance to the community. There is no other local organization or institution that contributes more to the well being of the people of the Eastern Shore. Thank you for highlighting the Y and hope to see more “progress reports” in the future!
