Several members of Talbot Bible Church in Easton, MD, along with help from community members, recently purchased 47 “sweet cases” – suit cases packed with a teddy bear, blanket, hygiene kit, coloring book and crayons to give to children who enter foster care in Talbot County.
According to Paris Quillet, Special Projects Coordinator at Talbot County Department of Social Services, “Most children going into foster care come into care during an emergency situation and have very few of their own things.”
The idea for “sweet cases” came from Sue Zollinhoffer, a foster parent, who along with her family, provide a licensed foster home for the Talbot County Department of Social Services. Zollinhoffer was Inspired by the “Together We Rise” national foster care campaign, which reports that every day 1,200 children enter foster care in the United States. Her hopes are that “sweet cases” will provide each child in care in Talbot County something of their own. Zollinhoffer’s efforts are also tied to Talbot County Department of Social Services’ recent efforts to meet with area businesses to increase awareness about the need for foster parents in Talbot County, as well as to seek “out of the box” ways individuals and businesses can support the foster care population in Talbot County.
