The Talbot County Roads Department is responsible for over 370 miles of roads, which includes mowing, snow removal and resurfacing, as well as tree trimming and maintaining the ditches and culverts throughout the county. As the weather warms up, the Roads crew have begun their annual road resurfacing projects around the county.
“Resurfacing projects help to extend the lifespan of county roads, and ensure reliable and accessible transportation for our residents and emergency crews,” mentioned Communications Manager, Sarah Kilmon. “It’s imperative we continue to support the work of the Roads Department.”
Roads are selected each year based on their condition and available funding. Scheduled work dates are weather sensitive and subject to change.
The Safety of Workers
National Work Zone Awareness Week, which is April 17-21, acknowledges the dedication of roadway workers. According to the Maryland State High Administration, nearly 300 highway construction, maintenance, and utility projects and more than 1,000 workers a day are currently active across the state.
As citizens begin to see more road crews, officials are imploring drivers to slow down, move over whenever possible, and pay close attention in work zones.
