The Talbot Association of Clergy and Laity (TACL) will hold its fall rally meeting on Wednesday, September 9 at noon in the parish hall of Christ Church Episcopal in St. Michaels. Special guest Richard M. Potter, Jr., will lead a discussion on “How to Desegregate 11 o’clock Sunday Morning.” All persons of good will are invited to attend this brown bag luncheon meeting.
Mr. Potter, an Easton Resident, is an educator serving as College and Career Transition Specialist for the Dorchester County Public Schools. He is President of the Talbot County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored Persons (NAACP), and serves on numerous boards throughout Talbot County.
Mr. Potter graduated from Sojourner Douglass College in 2008, matriculating to Wilmington University, receiving his master’s degree in Organizational Leadership in 2010. He is currently completing a doctoral degree in Higher Education at Morgan State University.
Mr. Potter is a minor media star throughout the Mid-Atlantic states because of a television commercial that showcased Wilmington University and his accomplishments.
“I am overjoyed to have this rising leader in our community as our season headliner,” said TACL Chairman Bishop Joel Marcus Johnson. “He represents the more gracious instincts which make us a mutually supportive society. This is now our third year planning together the annual NAACP-TACL joint-sponsored Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in January. I look forward to his collaboration as TACL plans to add an essay scholarship component to the festivities.”
The meeting also will hear reports on TACL’s current initiatives, including the Talbot County Conversation on Race, and the Congregation/Community Nursing Project, the latter co-sponsored with one of TACL’s institutional partners, UofM Eastern Shore Area Health Education Center.
TACL, now celebrating its 50th anniversary, is an interfaith organization promoting the spiritual welfare – compassion, justice, peace, reconciliation – for the common good. It does so through education, relationship building, and the diverse ministries of its members.
