Election 2022: Dorchester County Council District 5 Community Forum

June 14, 2022 by A Spy/WHCP Collaboration

Share

The Spy has teamed up with the Dorchester Chamber of Commerce, WHCP Community Radio, and the Mid-Shore Board of Realtors to host several candidate forums in advance of the July 19, 2022 primary election. The goal is to get the forums complete well ahead of the July 19th primary to provide County residents time to learn more about each candidate.

We continue our series with Dorchester County Council District 5.

With WHCP’s Kevin Diaz serving as moderator, we welcomed candidates Republicans Lenny Pfeffer, Thomas Bradshaw, William Layton and Mike Detmer as well as Democrat Zia Ashraf and independent candidate David Beverley.

This video is approximately 80 minutes in length.

Maintaining our rural countryside and clean waterways is essential for me. The County Council’s recent decision for 120 Lakeside residences to allow hook ups to the failing Trappe system was illegal. Council President Chuck Callaghan participated in the decision. Pete Lesher, running again, opposed it. Think about this when you vote on July 19.

It was suggested that there should be a recall power for the citizens to remove members of the County Council. For better or worse, that is prohibited under the Maryland Constitution.

Whether that should be changed is another matter.
