The Talbot Cinema Society will choose its movies for the 2016-2017 season next Wednesday. Anyone who belongs, or is interested in belonging, to the Cinema Society is welcome to participate.
The meeting will be held in the upstairs meeting room in the Talbot County Tourism Office (11 South Harrison Street) at 5:30 p.m. June 22. A slate of 8 movies will be chosen. Ideally, the schedule will include at least one foreign film and one documentary. Otherwise, anything and everything are fair game. An effort is usually made to avoid showing movies that TCS has already screened.
To maximize your chances of seeing your favorite movie(s) selected, consider doing one or more of the following:
1. Suggest it in advance to Pete Howell at [email protected] or 410-924-5752.
2. Ask your friends to do likewise. A broad base of support helps any movie.
3. Be prepared, either in your e-mail or at the meeting, to make a compelling case for your choice. Think about what awards it won, whose career it launched or capped, what Top 100 lists (for example, American Film Institute, Internet Movie DataBase users, Roger Ebert) it qualified for, and/or what makes it particularly timely for 2016-2017. For instance, since this is an election year, a really good political thriller or comedy would be an excellent choice for November.
4. Be prepared to volunteer to introduce the movie when we show it.
For more information about the Talbot Cinema Society, contact Pete Howell. To join the Society, please make your check ($45/person) out to Talbot Cinema Society and mail it to P.O. Box 222, Easton, MD 21601.
