More than 90 entries from Talbot County 6th, 7th and 8th grade middle school students were submitted to the first Gilbert Byron Poetry Contest. Awards for contest winners and runners-up will be presented on Monday, January 9, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the Easton Branch of the Talbot County Free Library in Easton. This event is free and open to the public.
Gilbert Byron was a local author and poet. Among the themes of Byron’s writing were caring for the environment, celebrating the watermen’s lives (what he called the cowboys of Maryland), and recognizing the transition from sailing vessels to motorized boats on the Chesapeake Bay.
