There will be, as they say, “something for everyone” this Saturday at the annual Oxford Day celebrations. The list includes a blessing of the dogs, 5k walk, 10 k run, flower basket competition, plant sale, book sale, bake sale, artisan’s fair, Coast Guard demonstrations, free rides on the skipjack Nathan of Dorchester, wine tasting, crab cakes, and of course the highlight of the day, the Oxford parade at 11 am.
Kids can have their faces painted, brave the pirate’s camp, and learn about the Chesapeake Bay at the Cooperative Oxford Laboratory. This year’s Oxford Day participants will be asked to add an environmentally friendly element to their floats, displays, and events to show that as a community Oxford is committed to making a difference in our world today and tomorrow.
As usual, there will be music after the parade, including the US Navy’s “Country Current” Bluegrass Band, and the Mid-Shore Community Band, gospel, with an after party featuring local favorites, Bird Dog and the Roadkings.
The Oxford ferry, established in 1683, celebrating its 328th birthday this year, will open 1 hour early at 8:00 AM for Oxford Day. (Kids ride for free.)
