Compass Regional Hospice is offering a grief support group for adults who have experienced the death of a loved one. The first meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 4, 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, at the Hope & Healing Center, 255 Comet Drive in Centreville. The group will meet every Tuesday through December 8. Participants are asked to commit to attending all or most of the 10 sessions in order to benefit the most from the group.
The grief support group will be co-facilitated by Ann OConnor, LCSW-C, and Wayne Larrimore, MEd, grief counselors for Compass Regional Hospice.
“Our grief groups are a combination of education and support,” says OConnor. “The group becomes a place for people to meet others who have experienced the death of a loved one.”
OConnor adds, “In this confidential and intimate setting participants will have a chance to say things they might feel uncomfortable saying to family and friends. Together, with facilitation from the leaders, the group members share ways to cope with their changed situation, realizing that grieving and adjusting to new ways of living take time.”
Each group session will revolve around topics such as, normal grief, sharing memories, and adjusting to and finding meaning in your loss. Including activities, teachings, and open discussions.
