Guiding Eyes for the Blind’s Delmarva Puppy Raising Region will showcase their guide dogs in training at an Open House on Tuesday, February 2nd from 5-7 pm at The Holiday Inn Express on Route 50 in Easton, MD. Visitors will learn what it is like to be a Guiding Eyes for the Blind puppy raiser as they meet local volunteers and cuddle with guide dogs in training.
Puppy Raisers are volunteers that take 8 week old puppies into their homes and love, nurture and educate them for a 12 to 16 month period before sending them off to their calling as a guide dog for a person who is blind or visually impaired. For someone without sight, a Guiding Eyes dog provides life-changing independence as well as unconditional love and support. Puppy raisers come from all walks of life and include couples, families with children, young adults and seniors. Some already have forever pets of their own while others commit to raising guide dogs as a way to give their love to a new dog each year.
Following the Open House at the Holiday Inn in Easton on February 2nd from 5-7 pm, orientation training classes for those interested in becoming puppy raisers will be held February 16, March 8th and March 15th from 5-7 pm at First Baptist Church on Idlewild Avenue in Easton. Attendance at all 3 classes is required.
