Warm weather and Small Business Saturday brought shoppers out today in Easton and St. Michaels, as temps in the mid 60s warmed the region for the busy shopping weekend.
Emily Chandler, owner of Piazza Italian Market said sales were brisk all around, as shoppers crowded Talbot Town Shopping Center in Easton on Black Friday. She noticed that more shoppers than usual were paying with American Express cards, presumably participating in “Small Business Saturday,” and receiving a $25 credit on their registered American Express Cards.
Jennifer Wagner and Kathleen Witte bustled about their new gallery on Harrison Street that opened just two weeks ago. With a wide range of paintings, prints and photography, the Wagner Witte Gallery also includes a retail area and jewelry. They reported strong traffic throughout the busy weekend.
The Easton Farmers Market had a good mix of residents and visitors, mingling among the fresh produce still available from local farms, as well as artisanal breads, soaps, freshly made seasonal wreaths and bison. Joe Masslofsy reported “decent’ sales of his handmade sea glass jewelry Saturday.
The air was festive and music played in the background. Jackie Whittington of Neopol said Saturday was off to a slow start, but traffic was picking up, as she piled mounds of smoked salmon on BLT sandwiches inside of Easton Market Square.
In St. Michaels, foot traffic filled the sidewalks, and plenty of shoppers carried bags of merchandise as they cruised up and down Talbot Street. “We’ve had lots of customers streaming through all weekend long,” said Kathy Rulis, of Silver Linings in St. Michaels.
