The 2016 internship program at Easton Utilities is well underway with the addition of four interns to include Emily Rossbach at the Wastewater Treatment Facility, Hayley Crowder in the accounting department, Bobby Jones with IT, and Audrey Stultz with marketing.
The internship program is a formal, comprehensive experience led by Civil Engineer Katie Reedy. At the onset, the participants attend a series of tours to learn about the services, infrastructure, and demands of each department. The interns select a specific project or topic and are required to give a presentation to the management team at the culmination of the program. “It is important to give these interns an authentic experience with a realistic understanding of what will be expected from them in the real world,” said Hugh E. Grunden, President and CEO of Easton Utilities.
Emily Rossbach is returning for her third year in the program, having recently graduated from Salisbury University with a Bachelor’s degree in biology. She is attending Towson University in the fall to pursue a Master’s in forensic science. Hayley Crowder is an accounting major at Christopher Newport in Williamsburg, VA and Bobby Jones is majoring in computer engineering at the University of South Carolina. All three are graduates of Easton High School. Audrey Stultz, a graduate of Chesapeake Christian School, is currently completing her Associate degree in Business Administration at Chesapeake College, and plans to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Marketing Management.
With the limited number of internship options available in this region, this program truly benefits the entire community. Giving the interns the experience needed to build their resumes is invaluable and has led to several local job placements, including a couple at Easton Utilities. Lauren Lahman and Athena Mellis participated in the 2015 internship program and are currently full time employees in the accounting and IT departments respectively.
