Street flooding was occurring throughout Talbot County Saturday night and motorists were advised not to drive into standing water. In St. Michaels, one lane of Talbot Street at North Street was flooded and in Easton, one lane of Matthewstown Road was flooded between Route 50 and Elliott Road.
The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Talbot and adjoining counties and reported that 4.55 inches of rain had fallen by 7:15 p.m. Saturday. A total of 10 to 12 inches of rain is expected as Hurricane Irene moves up the Maryland and Delaware Coast tonight with winds up to 80 miles an hour. Tidal flooding is expected in low-lying areas and the NWS warned that tornadoes could occur as Irene moves north.
Clear skies and strong northwest winds or 25 knots or more are predicted for tomorrow.
