Londonderry on the Tred Avon recently hosted its first “Got Talent” program, including a showcase of talent among residents and staff. The 15 acts ranged from musical performances, including singing, piano, pipe organ, and guitar, to poetry recitations and comedy routines, to native dance.
According to resident Sam Trippe, who resembled Lake Wobegon’s Garrison Keillor and won the Most Talented Award for his recitation of the lengthy poem, “The Cremation of Sam McGee,” by Robert Service, “I memorized the poem 60 years ago when I was in my second year the Naval Academy. Just seeing the crowd react to the poem was great!”
Londonderry CEO Irma Toce said, “I knew we had a lot of talent in-house and I was hoping for 4 or 5 contestants. I couldn’t believe 15 people entered into the contest!”
Among the winners of this year’s “Got Talent” program was Sam Trippe for Most Talented, Peggy Sloan for Best Showmanship, Dr. Good Wrench & Dr. Ginger Snap for Entertainment Value, and Frankie Thorington for Originality. The judges of this year’s event were Amy Steward of Steward Writing and Communications of Easton, and Rosemary Fasolo and Peter Markano of Pixel Print and Post of St. Michaels.
