The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is launching a project next week to reconstruct sidewalks along MD 33 (Talbot Street) from Spencer Avenue to Lee Street in historic St. Michaels, Talbot County. The two-year, $2 million project to improve pedestrian access and safety includes sidewalk repair and replacement, ramps and crosswalks built to current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
MDOT SHA will perform much of the work between fall and spring to minimize public impacts during the busy tourist season. Motorists can expect occasional daytime lane and shoulder closures. Pedestrian detours will be established when sidewalk sections are temporarily closed for construction. Pedestrians, cyclists and motorists are urged to pay close attention to surrounding conditions when approaching and traveling through work areas.
Throughout the planning phase, MDOT SHA worked closely with the Town of St. Michaels to ensure this project maintains the historic character of the downtown commercial corridor. Existing brick pavers and granite curbs will be reset for ADA compliance and several sections of concrete sidewalk will be replaced with brick and granite.
MDOT SHA’s contractor is McDonnell Landscape of Brookeville.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones. Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.

DANNA MURPHY MURDEN says
Does this mean that those of us who have spent thousands of dollars ( required by the town) on our brick side walks will have them taken up and replaced? Have the inconvenience of having our property torn up again. Mine has already been by MDOT. Will they give us notifications, last time they gave me three days ( very generous of them).
