Mercury Musicians, a collective of talented chamber musicians described by critics as “challenging the boundaries of the chamber music repertoire”, will perform at 4 p.m., Sunday, May 8 (Mother’s Day), at Trinity Cathedral in Easton. Admission is free.
The group is led by pianist Sahun “Sam” Hong, winner of numerous piano competitions and a guest soloist for symphonies across the nation. He also is an avid chamber musician playing with Trio St. Bernard. Hong performed at the Cathedral in 2015 on a newly-donated Steinway grand piano, a gift from the Patrick and Marilyn McGriff Family.
Mercury Musicians also includes violinists Stephanie Block, Brandon Garbot, and Andrew Kwon, and cellist Zachary Moritz, all noted for “imaginative performances and original programming of arrangements that bring great music to life in a fresh way while faithfully retaining all of the elements and intentions of the composer’s original works.” The program is entitled, “The Boldness of Beethoven.”
The concert is the third in the inaugural Professional Artist Series at Trinity Cathedral created by a newly-formed group, Allegro, that aspires to bring music of excellence to the newly renovated and inspiring space of the 125-year-old Cathedral. The performance is made by possible by gifts from Charlie and Jan Bohn and the Talbot County Arts Council with funds provided by the Talbot County Council and the Towns of Easton, St. Michaels, and Oxford
