The National Coalition on Homelessness offers some new information on their blog, including some interesting studies that show that up to 75% of the general public worries about hunger and homelessness. It seems that the issue is closer to most Americans than we realize.
In Talbot County, both the Neighborhood Service Center and the Talbot Interfaith Shelter work to shelter people who are homeless.
The Talbot County Public Schools reports that in the most recent school year, 98 students in Pre-K to grade 12 were listed as “homeless”, which is defined as “lacking a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence.” Think about that the next time you see a school bus bumbling down the county’s roads.
