Oxford’s Norm Bell Announces Candidacy for Town Commissioner

April 16, 2024 by Spy Desk

Share

Oxford resident Norm Bell has announced his candidacy for Commissioner of that historic town.

The 12-year resident of Oxford pledges openness and inclusion in town affairs. His immediate priorities are to address the rising water challenges, upgrade the water system, integrate new staff members into day-to-day town operations, and ensure strong communications among staff, residents and the three commissioners.

“I believe in the citizens of Oxford and their ability to work together to face challenges.” Norm said, “I am familiar with the issues from my work in the community and will bring my professional and volunteer experiences to facilitate solutions.”

Norm has the commitment, experience, and demonstrated record needed to lead the community. He currently serves as Chairman of the Oxford Planning Commission and President of the Oxford Community Center. His other volunteer roles include Chair of the Oxford Ad Hoc Policy and Procedures Committee and member of the Oxford Sea Level Rise Steering Committee. A chemical engineer by training, Norm spent his career at DuPont. He will focus efficiently on providing for the safety, health, and welfare of Oxford’s citizens. He has also found time to serve as a member and officer of the Temple B’nai Israel Board of Directors and serves as a Director of the Chesapeake Forum Board.

As an Oxfordian for the past 12 years, Norm considers Oxford and the surrounding landscape the ideal subject for his award-winning photography. He has appeared regularly in juried fine arts shows. He and Paula, his wife of 57 years, enjoy life with BeBe their Pomeranian. They have two sons and two grandchildren.

Norm will dedicate himself to serving Oxford as a commissioner who will involve the entire community to successfully manage the changes required to move Oxford forward while maintaining the traditional, classic greatness of this historic town.

For more specifics, see his campaign web page here: https://trombone-squid-yzkl.squarespace.com/about-norm and plan to attend the Announcement Rally on Sunday, April 20th, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Miss Jenny’s Church on S. Morris and South Streets.

Excellent article. Norm brings with him so much multi-level Oxford experience and is one of the most thoughtful and fair minded folks we could ask for as a candidate for Commissioner.
