I am a fan of Donald Westlake and the loveable bad guys he writes about.
Put a Lid on It begins when Francis Xavier Meehan is sprung from prison by member of the President’s staff. They need an experienced criminal to steal a piece of incriminating evidence which might lose the election. In return Meehan would get his freedom.
Meehan soon discovers the total incompetence of his rescuers and decides to take control of the operation with the help of his lawyer, Goldfarb, a feisty young woman. “Maybe you ought to rethink crime as a career path,” she advises.
“I do all the time — but nothing else gives me the same job satisfaction,” he answers.
Overcoming the stumbling blocks the Washington big shots create along the way, Meehan completes the job, but on his own terms.
How? Read this and discover.
