The Queen Anne’s Chorale will present its annual spring gala entitled, “A Musical Menagerie”. This family-oriented, fun-filled program about animals will feature repertoire about familiar animals in our environment. Before the concert begins, balloon artist, Steve Gambrill will meet and treat guests in the lobby with his balloon animals. During the performance, Mr.Gambrill will also be onstage to create balloon figures for two of the pieces. The audience will recognize some of his balloon creations as stage décor as well.
Adults and children alike will be delighted by the carefully selected repertoire: “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf”, arranged by Norman Luboff; “The Little Horses” and “I Bought Me a Cat’, both by Aaron Copland; “Swinging On A Star” by Johnny Burk and Jimmy Van Heusen; “The Lobster Quadrille”, three Choral settings from “Alice In Wonderland” with music by Irving Fine. In a more classical vein, the Chorale will present Benjamin Britten’s, “Rejoice in the Lamb” taken from a poem of the same name and written by Christopher Smart. Its theme is the worship of God by all creatures in their own way. Smart illustrates this in the fourth section of the piece which uses his own cat as an example of praising God by being the creature as it is intended to be.
