Thursdays in the Park, the Queen Anne’s County Arts Council’s free concert series begins the second week in June with a performance by the Chesapeake Bay Community Band. Formed in 1994, the band performs throughout the region delighting audiences with marches, classic concert band literature and Broadway favorites.
Under the skillful direction of conductor Fred Hughes, the band has evolved into a professional level group, who are sought after for special events and concerts year-round. Hughes has performed, conducted and presented workshops throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia. By the young age of 25, he had already been long recognized as an up and coming conductor and World Class jazz pianist for his work with the First Army Band in Fort Meade, Maryland and the Eighth Army Band in Seoul, Korea. His conducting credits include the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, Atlanta and Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestras, Washington and Lyric Opera Orchestras and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Concerts begin at 7 pm. The series is presented by the Queen Anne’s County Arts Council and sponsored by the Maryland State Arts Council, the United Way of Queen Anne’s County, Petra Quinn for Exit Gold Realty, and Dr. James Lucas. A raffle will be held throughout the concert season offering two tickets to a performance by the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, and media sponsorship has been provided by Tidewater Trader and radio station WCTR 1530.
