Tred Avon Player’s present a delightfully clever adult comedy, Social Security written by Andrew Bergman and directed by Patrick J. Fee, and assistant director, Zack Schlag, May1-May 22 at the Historical Society of Talbot County.
The priveleged life style of Manhattan art gallery owners Barbara and David Kahn is disrupted by the arrival of her bossy mother, Sophie. The meeting of forthright, walker-thumping Sophie to one of Kahn’s best clients, a famous aging artist, creates hilariouscomic imbalance. Maurice offers to paint Sophie’s portrait and soon begins to brighten her life in ways she never expected in her twilight years. An envious sister and brother-in-law create more havoc on the domestic tranquility of the Kahn’s. Elder care and family responsibilities cross paths with matters of the heart.
Director, Patrick Fee provides a cast that is eager for the challenge and comedy potentia lof Social Security. Anna Kusinitz and Chris Rogers play sophisticated Barbara and David Kahn. Susan Patterson and Art Wolfe are Trudy and Martin Heyman, the uptight relatives. Toby Scrupski is Sophie Greengrass, the bossy mother and David Foster portrays the artist, Maurice Koenig.
TAP’s Social Security is an entertaining adult comedy as penny pinching and freespending collide amidst family dynamics and jealousies and the realization that seniors never lose interest in the opposite sex! During renovations in Oxford, all TAP performances are at the Historical Society Auditorium of Talbot County on Washington Street in Easton.
